Only a Bastardized Godfather Quote Will Do
Theo Epstein: We offered him Manny and prospects to let A-Rod go, but Hicks said no. The next day Steinbrenner went to see him, only this time he brought Luca Brasi. And within an hour, Hicks had all but traded A-Rod for Soriano.
Bob Lobel: How'd he do that?
Theo: Steinbrenner made Hicks an offer he couldn't refuse.
Bob: What was that?
Theo: Luca Brasi held a gun to Hicks' head. And Steinbrenner assured him that either his skull, or Alex Rodriguez, would be in the Yankees' dugout next year.

To pick up on the Godfather analogy, Tom Hicks, like Tattaglia, is a pimp. All he wanted to do was get whatever he could for A-Rod. In fact, I was positive that, had the Manny-for-A-Rod deal happened, Hicks would have (a) gotten the Red Sox to pay part of Manny's salary (as he was trying to hold them up to do) and then (b) turned around and traded Manny to the Yankees anyway, in, as they say, "a New York minute".
So, let's see, to get A-Rod the Red Sox would have had to get rid of Manny Ramirez AND Nomar Garciaparra (since A-Rod did not want to move from Shortstop), but the Yankees get him for Alfonso Soriano and a "player to be named later".
Steinbrenner is despicable, Major League Baseball, as Dolly Parton would put it is "9-to-5" is "a rich man's game, no matter what you call it", moreso than any other sport. And Tom Hicks will be rotting in h-e-youknow what (or at least in last place) looking up at the Angels, Mariners, and A's for years to come. I hope he's happy being the dregs of the American League for the rest of the decade, that scumbag.
Is that enough analogies and metaphors for one posting?
