Righteous Fire

I've been meaning to write down my thoughts on the Iraq debacle (Iraqcle?), but Al Gore beat me to it. I hope, when all is said and done, this goes down as one of the most famous speeches in American history.

That said, I hate to quibble...but AL, WHERE WAS THIS FIRE FOUR YEARS AGO????

I'd print the speech out if I were you. If the worst-case scenario happens, Al Gore may very well wind up playing the role of Emmanuel Goldstein and it would be nice to have a copy in physical form.

Pessimistic, aren't we . . . but I can't say I disagree. I put up the speech too and giving you a nod as always. (Must have learned that locution from a recently Daily Stuff, which concluded, "Thanking you.")

as a long admirer and frequented visitor to the bunkosquad i am proud to post my first comment and i must say upfront i am intellectually challenged and a firm/proud Republican (do those two go hand-in-hand?)... Gore's speech, reeking too much of another failed lefty (hdean), is so comical that i had to watch it a couple of times to see that wow, that really was good ol' Al Snore... but the text of his speech is about as pointed as Ronald McDonald blaming Burger King for this country's weight problem. One needs to wonder not only where this fire was when he lost what should've been the easiest election since Ashcroft ran against a dead guy (oh, wait, scratch that, Ashcroft lost that one, didn't he?) but what, exactly, was he doing for eight years when he coulda/shoulda done something about this. G.W.B. ruining the "good name of the U.S." as A.G. roared about is like ted kennedy calling Dale Earnheart a bad driver... i'm fairly certain the "good name of U.S." was spilled on to a blue dress while V.P. Snore was whistling past the grave yard (like Lt. Frank Drebin "nothing to see here... please move along...")
Please Bunkosquad staff, in the name of the late Phil Fonebone, keep up the good work, though i disagree with most of your politics, i still check out this page for its humor and well-crafted writing.

Well, edved, as a dedicated Onion reader (and let's take a moment to honor the late Phil Fonebone), surely you remember the prophetic article of Jan. 18, 2001: Bush: 'Our Long National Nightmare of Peace and Prosperity Is Finally Over'. Gore's mistake was playing nice with Bush; instead of agreeing with a damn thing he said and going on and on about the lockbox, he could/should have blown him out of the water in the 1st debate and never looked back. But that's neither here nor there. The fact is, many otherwise calm and rational people are driven to apoplexy by watching Bush maneuver through his administration with all the grace and dexterity of a Greenwell/Burks outfield collision.

And as for the dress (which no one will let go of, since it seems to be the only thing worth criticizing in 8 years of Bill, unless you're still worked up about the haircut), yes Clinton lied and it was bad and wrong. Now will anyone admit the fact that Bush and his cronies have so little regard for the truth that they'll lie about the weather?

But other than that, thanks for the kind words :)

oh Mike, i promise you i haven't laughed that loud in quite sometime... who could forget those Greenwell/Burks "meetings"? (christ, couldn't either one of 'em say "i've got it!" w/ some authority?!?) again, i am an intellectual light weight and i knew you would have some witty, snappy and, um, solid rebuttle. (i, unlike ms Coulter, had little problem w/ P. Clinton gettin' his hair cut on the tarmac) I am still a faithful reader of the Bunkosquad and now an occassional "poster". i still hope my President, G.W.B. is once again fairly and legally elected, just like last time, but i hold out more hope that B.K. Kim rediscovers his fastball, Manny never gets a sore throat, and Greenwell and Burks steer clear of each other at the World Series parade in October.
Please remember, in Buddy we trust!

Could respond to post about bush and AF1. You profile said you were open minded. Think you should change that. If your man was running the show i would support his actions too.

A mindless flag waver
