Tip Of the Cap To the South Side

Congratulations, White Sox and fans. So sweet to see something that no one you know has ever seen before, and you were scared you'd never see.

And so much sweeter that, 2 seconds after it happened, Fox didn't cut to Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon making out at second base.

I think there's an informal agreement in baseball that whoever loses Game One of the Series will tank the next three, to save the nation three extra nights of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.

And that's five teams that have won more recently than the Yankees.

...And the incessant prayer shots in the stands. I’m an Astros fan and am somewhat happy that I do not have to endure any more of Fox’s crap.

I was going to write at length about how I hate Fox, but started to have blood come out of my eyes, so I stopped. The ridiculous close-ups, the fact that they can't stay with a shot for more than 2.1 seconds, the pitch-track (Thanks for the fiery graphics! We never would have seen the ball without it!)...and it was the lowest-rated WS ever. Cause and effect?

To paraphrase an old bard (actually, Shakespeare): "The play's the thing". I know that William S. meant it in a different context, but to apply it in this case, I don't know why Fox or other networks can't just show us the game.

I don't need to see Bernie Mac or whoever else is on a Fox show that they want to hype in the crowd (and by the way, what real fan got displaced from the seat that he/she sat in all year so that Bernie could have that seat?).

I don't need to see the pitch-track except maybe on a close pitch. Certainly not every pitch.

Real fans don't need the hoopla. Occasional fans probably don't care; they are going to turn on the World Series cause it's an event, not to see what graphics Fox has come up with.

And ... start the game at 8:00, or even 7:00 local time (which of course for the Chicago - Houston series would have been 8:00 for us Easterners), so we can actually SEE the game ... in ... its ... entirety ... every night.

And while we're at it, have the weekend games start earlier. Start at 4:00, start at 6:00, but start earlier so that kids, your next generation of fans, can see the big game.

Don't get me started. Oops, too late.
