No Love For Grover Cleveland Alexander

Here's an update on the Hall of Fame project I mentioned last week: there's a permalink to all updates, and Doug has started separating the locks (so far 3: Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks and Johnny Bench) from the guys with no chance. I'm really surprised Grover Cleveland Alexander didn't make the cut; maybe I've overrated him, maybe people have short memories. Or maybe it's anti-Reagan backlash.

My endorsements for the B's currently active: Chief Bender yes, Yogi Berra yes, Wade Boggs no (it's personal; he was an unlikeable mercenary prick), Lou Boudreau yes, Jim Bottomley no, Cool Papa Bell yes, Roger Bresnahan no.

My votes were:
Yes - Berra, Brett, Bell, Brock, Bresnahan
No - Bender, Bottomley, Boudreau, Boggs

Boggs is the most selfish, arrogant baseball player I have ever seen. I remember him once being asked why he didn't swing at a hit-a-run call by his manager in which the runner was thrown out at 2nd. His response was "I'm not accustomed to swinging at the first pitch." Not exactly great teamwork. Well, Wade, I'm not accustomed to voting for folks like you the 1st time I get the chance either.

He also once said that he "willed himself invisible" when someone was trying to rob him. Well, I guess this means that he willed himself invisible on my vote for the Hall of Fame as well.

Yogi, Brett, Brock, and others: YES. Boggs: NEVER.

Thanks for the mentions. Much appreciated.

He gave up a lot of hits, but come on! Most wins and shutouts for the National League? And besides, have they no appreciation for irony? The man served two non-consecutive terms (with the Phillies). That alone should be Hall of Fame worthy.

Two non-consectuive terms? Holy God, that slipped right by me, then made me laugh out loud to the point where people looked at me funny.
