You Wound Me, Sir
John Daley reports that on his pathetic radio show, pathetic Dan Shaughnessy opined that,
"all bloggers" are losers and frustrated journalists. And apparently, we're destroying the political system.
Whatever, Dan. Just keep in mind that MY ill-conceived, hackneyed, half-assed ramblings and reconsiderations of the glaringly obvious DON'T require the death of thousands of trees and a fleet of trucks to distribute them all over hell and creation.

Plus your stuff -- unlike Shaughnessy's -- is consistent, interesting, does not reflect the views of a front-running wannabe, shows intelligence, is not insulting to readers, etc.
Your stuff is clever, like newspaper columnists of old (such as Ray Fitzgerald, or Dick Schapp), not tired and repititious, like Shaughnessy's.
Plus, if Shaughnessy is such a great writer, and newspaper writing is THE pinnacle of success in the world of mass media, why is his face on just about every TV and radio sports talk show that he can get it on? Why isn't he spending that time writing more and better columns?

I did not read Shaughnessy's whole column today (I rarely do) but two things on the front page of his column caught my eye:
1) He made some comment about Doug Mientkiewicz returning to Fenway this year with the Yankees and maybe the Fenway folks should nail things down. Wouldn't a good reporter know that Mientkiewicz already came back to Fenway as a member of an opposing team, the Kansas City Royals, last year?
2) He made some comment disparaging the real fans who went to the Celtics-Hawks game on Wednesday. I guess his point is that a game in a team sport is not worth attending unless the team is so good that you can get a front page column about it, or you can jump on the bandwagon and write a book about it. Wouldn't a real fan of basketball and a good Celtics fan attend games when the team is down as well as when the team is good?
Real fan? Good reporter? Can't find one at Shaugnessy's desk.

Heh - you posted that as I was thoroughly going through this morning's fishwrap.
I missed the Mientkiewicz thing, but it makes sense that Dan did, too - who cares about regular season games against KC?

Don't read the paper any more, but maybe this columnist is threatened by how popular blogs are? Perhaps the thought of "untrained" writers who are better than him are getting more readers?
We aren't losers. I will vouch for frustrated myself, but not as a journalist. I'm a nurse. Yup... a frustrated nurse blogger. But not a loser.
What a dope, huh?
