Ben Schumin Attracts the Attention of Wingnuts

Lord knows I've had my share of chuckles at Ben Schumin over the years. (Like here) So I was surprised to find that he's currently being portrayed as The Face of Liberal Evil on Michelle Malkin's short bus, because he took lots of pictures(!) at an anti-war rally. And of course it would be suitable Malkin Material if they didn't highlight where Ben lives and works.

But Ben had better watch himself this weekend, according to the Malkinite. The Gathering of Eagles will be there, with patriotic anthems on their tongues and armbands on their sleeves (sound familiar?), ready to fight for what they believe in (assuming they only have to fight "moonbats" and pudgy Virginians, as opposed to Iraqi insurgents or "terrorists"). Be safe, Ben. There may be a bounty on your head, and the Internet can't afford to lose you.

OMG -- I had forgotten all about Ben. 2002 -- time flies. LOL

Followed a trackback from MM's site here. Hello.

"because he took lots of pictures(!)"

I'm pretty sure it was more because it was another example of his agonizingly banal writing style showing a bunch of anarchists spray-painting on the capitol.

But that's just my impression.

God, he's been posting non-stop since the web began and hasn't done a single thing of worth. But I suppose he'll become a temporary hero now because "wingnuts" made fun of him.

Typical little useless smarmy punk, can't seem to leave home, still taking out the trash for mom. Bored. Bored. Bored. Until he puts his carefully assembled urban guerrilla costume on and does his days-of-rage protest shtick for a few hours, then home, back to keyboard, ingest large pizza, floss teeth and dream of the girl and income he'll never have thanks to his pizza fed lardass, deficient social skills and an attitude no one would hire.

Are you talking about Ben, or the Eagles?

This Ben individual may now have a legal case against Malkin.

Sure sounds like Malkin is promoting a confrontation with Ben in D.C. or his workplace.

Smart move.

I've been reading Schumin with horrified fascination for a couple years now. Schumin doesn't take a dump without posting it on his website, so have you ever noticed that he never mentions reading books? Plenty of Golden Girls reruns, and lots of Today's Specials marathons, but he doesn't seem to have read a book since college (and even then, how many?) My point is, Schumin's black-bloc, tubby urban anarchist guerilla pose doesn't stem from any intellectual framework. It's based probably on nothing more than the fact that these wackjobs have "accepted" him. Targetting loners is a classic path for cult recruitment. If Schumin were around in the 60s, he'd probably have been the portliest member of the Manson family -- oh, not actually cutting anybody up, Heavens forfend! But he'd have been right behind with a Polaroid to take snaps of the blood and the Helter Skelter scrawlings.

I also find it troubling that for someone who professes to care so much about liberal causes and environmental issues, he sure seems to burn up a shitload of gas carting himself to and from DC as often as he can.

Sad.

Thanks, Nick - no one's really slammed me yet; I don't know whether to be relieved or disappointed.
