I'll Listen To Reason

I'm having one of my occasional "maybe I should move out of Boston" spells. This spring*'s weather broke my spirit, the local sports scene has nowhere to go but down, I've looked at apartment costs in other cities which break my heart, and...I don't know...I just feel like maybe life will be a little different (read: better) somewhere else.

So convince me why I should or shouldn't go, and if I go, where I should go. I have a few cities I've been investigating; some will seem obvious to people who know me and some will come completely out of nowhere. But I ain't tellin' yet. (I'll finish Project 351 before I go, so we're looking at another year or so. One more winter. Sigh.)

*the term "this spring" refers only to the calendar period between March 21 and the present, and may or may not correspond with any actual observance of pleasant and enjoyable weather in the Greater Boston area. Though May's been pretty good.

Would hate to see you go, but I always say "Go West, young man," or whatever the old saw is. Believe it or not, it was less pricey to live in CA.

"spirit-breaking" is an accurate way to describe this despicable weather.

You should stay because otherwise you'll miss the Celtic's victory parade!

Oh. You're here for another year anyway? Nevermind.

I left boston a year ago. This was after 2 years of saying Boston sucks! I cant afford a house here! I hate it! Booo! Boston! Booo! 2 whole years people had to hear me bitch about boston.

I move to Durham/Raleigh NC. Oh you will love it they siad! Oh the cost of living is so much lower they said!

I hated it.

4 months later I moved to MO.

Oh you will love it they said.

Im back in boston. its been 14 days. I feel like Im back home.

I just moved up here because I fell in love with the city. It's easy to see the negatives and forget the positives. I moved up here from Norfolk, Virginia. I loved Norfolk and would live there again. Some of the things that I like better about Boston than Norfolk: great public transit, more culture and diversity, lots more stuff happening, less crime, less poverty, better architecture, less hurricanes, etc.

Austin, TX. And not because it rhymes with Boston. Warm weather, interesting indie music scene, and within close range of 3 metropolitan areas with major sports teams, though that'd probably be more of a weekend stay thing for Dallas.

Or you can go back to Philly. Great city still with that east coast mentality (love it or hate it). As long as you never root for the Flyers.

The local sports scene has nowhere to go but down? You'd prefer living in a Yankee resenting, Larry Bird aging, colonial football-snapping place like the early 90s? Even I'm perplexed at this negative outlook....being someone from a town where the baseball team hasn't crested .500 in 15 years (and counting!...?).

But if you leave Boston, what will you have to bitch about?

I left Beantown almost a year ago now, and while Seattle is nice, I miss Boston like hell.

The fans in Section 324 last night were horrible, but don't let that drive you away. Let me point out a few sports-related reasons to stay: Kevin Garnett, Tom Brady, David Ortiz, Josh Beckett, and so on. It's hard to find another city with players as good or as intense as these guys.

Spring and summer are coming. Before you know it it will be time for the Patriots summer camp.

Hey, "Everywhere you go - there you are." Don't leave Boston, GO somewhere. Otherwise whatever is gnawing at you will gnaw at you while you look at the new scenery.
