Moneyball, Michael Lewis

Moneyball is an absolutely fascinating book for anyone who loves baseball and is curious about what goes on behind the scenes. Lewis follows the career of Billy Beane, former can't-miss prospect who missed, big time, and decided his future in baseball belonged in the front office. Beane has kept the Oakland A's, with a fraction of the finances of the Yankees or the Braves, near the top of the league since he's been there, with a mix of shrewd gambling and outright ignoring "conventional wisdom". The chapters on the war rooms, during the draft or on trade deadline day, are amazing portraits of a madman at work.
